Her creative process begins with both auditory and visual stimulations, gradually allowing the content to dissipate, leaving behind only tactile forms. These creations embody the essence of paper’s life and decay, crafted by finely chopping and mashing the sheets she has assembled. The majority of the paper she uses comes from printed materials. As she breaks down these printed materials, the ink and adhesive blend with water, revealing their distinct colors and textures. The artist then responds to these materials, incorporating them into her artwork to determine the color and firmness of the piece. The resulting forms arising from this amalgamation of paper mixtures are irregular and precarious, further accentuated by the inclusion of long, flexible metal rods that introduce an element of uncertain balance. Flagpoles, once utilized as markers of territorial boundaries, continue to exist in modified forms throughout the city, carrying a multitude of shapes and meanings. Intrigued by the flagpole’s significance within the urban landscape, the artist often integrates forms reminiscent of stone markers into her work. Rather than rushing to create a specific shape, she finds delight in the organic emergence of shapes as she gathers her thoughts; the question of “what” she is creating holds little importance. Employing various methods, Hur weaves together scenes that come to resemble her personal memories as their shapes unfold.

작가의 설치 작업은 시각과 청각의 자극에서 시작하여 내용이 점차 사라지고 촉각적인 형태만 남은 것으로 보인다. 종이의 생과 사가 느껴지는 이번 작업은 작가가 그간 모은 종이를 잘게 자르고 으깨서 만들었다. 작업에 사용한 종이는 대부분 인쇄물이다. 인쇄물을 해체하고 물에 개면서 종이에 섞인 잉크와 접착제 등의 성분이 드러난다. 이것은 작품으로 다시 결합될 때 색상과 견고함을 결정하며 작가는 이 재료들에 반응한다. 종이죽을 뭉쳐서 만든 작품의 형태는 불규칙하고 위태롭다. 게다가 낭창거리는 긴 철제 막대까지 더해져 무게중심이 아슬아슬하다. 깃대는 과거에 영역을 표시하는 상징물이었고 현재까지도 도심 곳곳에서 변형된 모습으로 자리하고 있다. 다양한 모습과 의미를 담은 깃대는 작가에게 흥미로운 도시의 풍경 중 하나였다. 그래서 그의 작품에는 종종 표지석의 모양과 유사한 형태가 드러난다. 작가는 어떤 형상을 만들기 위해 돌진하지 않고 생각을 정리하면서 드러나는 형태에 즐거움을 얻는다. 무엇을 만드는지가 크게 중요하지 않다는 것이다. 허지혜는 여러가지 방식을 수행하며 작품의 모양새가 드러날 때 기억과 유사한 장면을 연결하고 완성한다.
